NEW Alice In Chains Song!

I'm a huge Alice In Chains fan.
So when my friend Pedwell sent me a tweet with a YouTube link to a new song from their upcoming album, I felt an excitement for music that I haven't had in a very, very long time. And thankfully, I wasn't let down.
The new song "A Looking In View" from their upcoming album "Black Gives Way To Blue", available Sept. 29, can be downloaded from their official site here: http://www.aliceinchains.com/
Heavy, sludgy, dirty guitars. Dark and moody, with William DuVall's vocals being the perfect successor to the late, great Layne Staley.
The vibe that we all loved, remains.

Quartered: In the News

The following article is re-posted as it originally appears in the Peace Arch News, at this link.
Rock Group Maturing
By Alex Browne - Peace Arch News
The most recent EP by Quartered, Straight Out The Sandbox, represents a quantum leap forward by a hard-working band.
The music retains all the raw intensity and emotional power of the White Rock-based group’s debut CD, The Falls Of Autumn, but has acquired additional polish, tight musicianship and a new and convincing sophistication in production.
There is also the band’s same capacity to surprise, and capitalize on their many musical influences to create music that defies the usual expectations of metal-tinged rock.Click To Read More...

Video: Death of The Rock Critic?

This is a must-see, hilarious video taken from the 140 Characters Conference of speaker Christopher R. Weingarten, music critic for Rolling Stone and Idolator. His topic is how music blogs and Twitter have killed the music critic, and in its wake, 'good' music itself. This is an incredibly witty and insightful presentation that I'm sure everyone will get a kick out of, and hopefully create some conversation on this blog in the process.
Christopher R. Weingarten has also launched a new Twitter profile @1000TimesYes, where he's doing 1000 micro-music reviews in one year. He's currently at #408, it's a cool concept.

The Online Artist Report Card

Some of the things I discover online are far too important to just send a quick little tweet about, and this is one of them. In today's world of Web 2.0 and the development of independent artists, what you do in the online world is quite possibly the single most important aspect of your career.
Are you hunkering down at the computer every day, connecting with fans or trying to find new ones? Are you easy to find online? Is there enough interesting content about your band to keep fans interested and excited about what you're doing?
I found this Online Artist Report Card on the music marketing and social media blog Way Cool Jnr at this link, which was originally developed from Native Digital.

Neilsen's Obsession Good For Fans

Ross Neilsen continues to generate lots of press across the country, thanks in large part to his non-stop touring from coast to coast, and to his relentless work ethic.

Band to Watch: Black Hat Villain

I just got back from Victoria (on Vancouver Island) yesterday, after going to check out the newly re-launched Black Hat Villain, which now features Scott Valentine on vocals. While this was only their second live performance with their new lineup, you'd never guess it judging by how unbelievably solid these guys are. 'Pro' is an understatement. These guys are ready to go and I won't be surprised if they have major labels knocking on their door very soon.

Show Success Before Asking For Help

Regardless of how everyone is probably sick of hearing all the press and buzz about Twitter, myself included, I continue to use it daily to spread music industry related news and articles, free mp3's, and tips for music marketing and promotion. To the uninitiated, Twitter is an over-hyped, social web-thingy that doesn't really make any sense. But if you give it a chance, and 'follow' the right people with similar interests, you'll find a wealth of information and knowledge that would otherwise be lost.
Here's an example of the type of thing I send out on Twitter: http://sivers.org/success-firstClick To Read More...

Ross Neilsen To Record With Acclaimed Producer Jim Dickinson

East Coast blues artist Ross Neilsen is putting plans in place for his next studio album, to be recorded early in 2010, and has just confirmed that the album will be recorded at Zebra Ranch with acclaimed producer Jim Dickinson, father of Luther and Cody of three-time Grammy nominated North Mississippi All Stars.
Among many other production and performance credits, Dickinson recorded "Wild Horses" with the Rolling Stones in 1969 for their album 'Sticky Fingers'. He also played on Bob Dylan's 'Time Out Of Mind', 1998's Grammy winning Record of the Year.

Art of Dying at Moho
Posted By KRISTIAN PARTINGTON, SPECIAL TO THE EXAMINER
In the world of rock music, the small town of Norwood carries a big punch. It's a place that breeds a core of musicians eager to spread their art into the wider world and in a business that's cutthroat, at best, they're leaving their mark.
The latest group is Art of Dying, a five-piece band whose name inspires something dark or sinister, but whose members are anything but. These guys are fuelled by a passion for music and a love of all things beautiful in life.Click To Read More...
