Global Metal

I just watched the stellar documentary "Global Metal" by Sam Dunn, which is a must-see movie for anyone interested in music, globalization, culture, and anthropology.
I was shocked to find out that cheap CD cutouts (deleted titles from record labels' catalogue) from America in the 90's were responsible for Metal reaching a new country, who previously weren't permitted to legally import free-thinking music.
So what does this mean?
Chinese musicians began to develop their rock n' roll licks by listening to...and loving...musical failures from the West.
Crazy.
And because of that, Chinese musicians started playing rock almost 50 years later than the West.
Wow.
A very cool movie and extremely interesting...
