Moral Decay: Dave Wenger RIP

CONTINUED FROM PART 1, HERE:
This is an update to yesterday's blog about some music I was looking for from an early 90's metal band from Victoria, BC by the name of Moral Decay, featuring Dave Wenger, who went on to form influential indie act Daddy's Hands. Dave was struck and killed by a car in Montreal in 2006. He was only 33.
So one day later after I launched my blog and search for a digital copy of Moral Decay, my mission is complete. I have acquired a digital copy of their demo cassette, To Build An End, from the early '90's.
And now...here it is being passed back to the metal and Dave Wenger community, for you to appreciate.
MORAL DECAY - TO BUILD AN END (cassette demo)
MP3: MORAL DECAY - WHEN I DIE
MP3: MORAL DECAY - THIS GOD
MP3: MORAL DECAY - TO BUILD AN END
MP3: MORAL DECAY - WINDS OF DEATH
MP3: MORAL DECAY - CLOSE YOUR MIND
Production values sure have changed since then huh?
After giving this tape a couple of spins, I think the reason why I connected with Moral Decay so much when I was a kid was because of the pain he was obviously in. It's a pretty emotional performance from this guy. The lyrical content, the angry screams for help. I can relate. Frustration with religion and relationships, confusion with life. And then there was the live performance. Riveting and frantic, a whirl of spinning hair, these guys were an awesome thrash band live.
To my young group of friends, it was like having our very own Death Angel (a popular San Francisco thrash band from the time) right in our own province who we'd see play at beer fueled bush parties.
Is this dated? Well, yeah. But if you give it a chance and listen to it remembering the time its from and how young these guys were, I think you'll be able to appreciate it.
Anyways, thanks to my quest to find out who this metal band whose name I couldn't recall, Moral Decay has been rediscovered...and I've now discovered Dave Wenger's other fantastic group, Daddy's Hands. Check out their MySpace site here: http://www.myspace.com/daddy39shands
