ECMA Nominee Ross Neilsen to Celebrate CD Release with Acoustic Playhouse Performance

Filed in:

The Playhouse Fredericton
Fredericton, NB – Canada’s hardest working blues rock act, Ross Neilsen & The Sufferin’ Bastards are set to launch their new album Live at The Acoustic Grill with a highly anticipated CD release concert at The Fredericton Playhouse on Saturday, April 9 at 8pm.

Co-presented by
105.3 The Fox, The Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival, and The Fredericton Playhouse, this event will showcase Neilsen and his band in what Neilsen describes as “…a nice contrast to our blistering electric show.” Adds Neilsen, “...with me on acoustic guitar for the duration of the show, and with no screaming electric to hide behind, it will be an evening of storytelling that features tales of ‘where the songs come from’.”
Ross Neilsen & The Sufferin' Bastards

Proving that hard work pays off, Neilsen was honoured with a nomination for
Best New Artist at The Maple Blues Awards in 2010, two Rising Star awards from CBC, and just received his third Blues Recording of the Year nomination from the East Coast Music Association. Neilsen also won Best Blues Recording for Redemption, his last studio album, at the 2010 MusicNB awards.

“Ross Neilsen is a stellar hometown talent that we’ve watched develop into a formidable blues artist,” said the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival’s Music Director, Brent Staeben. “To think that it was only a few short years ago that he won our Galaxie Rising Star competition, and now he’s celebrating his sixth album release at The Playhouse, it’s a prime example of why the Festival is dedicated to showcasing local talent. We’re happy to continue our support for Ross by co-presenting this landmark show with 105.3 FM The Fox and The Fredericton Playhouse.”

Tickets for Ross Neilsen & The Sufferin’ Bastards’ CD Release Concert are on sale now at the Fredericton Playhouse box office 1-866-884-5800, or online at
www.theplayhouse.ca.

Regular tickets - $20
Premium tickets - $28 (includes a copy of Ross Neilsen & The Sufferin’ Bastards: Live at the Acoustic Grill)

Ross Neilsen Receives ECMA Nomination for Blues Recording of the Year

Filed in:

The 2011 ECMA Nominations came out last week and we're thrilled to announce that our very own Ross Neilsen & The Sufferin' Bastards have been nominated for Blues Recording of the Year. Congrats guys!

Check out these recent quotes from John Vermilyea at
The Blues Report:

"
Over the last 3 years, Ross Neilsen and the Sufferin' Bastards, have been catching the attention of a lot of people, not only with their epic tourings, 240,000+Kms, but also because of their epic sound. Hailing from the East Coast of Canada, they already have 5 national tours and over 600 shows under their belts and they managed to do it 100% independently on their own, which is a testament to their creative business savvy."

"Redemption" comes at you hot n heavy, straight out of the gates, and if you think you going to get a bathroom break or even want one, when listening to this gem, think again. Ross Neilsen and the Sufferin' Bastards are an invigorating, energetic, and rejuvenating sound, the likes of which you have not heard in a long time. Especially true for Neilsen's Over Drive Style of Guitar Playing.

"Redemption" gets a resounding high five from me via my highest rating of 5*****. Brilliant and Fresh Blues/Rock, all in one fabulous package. Ross Neilsen and the Sufferin' Bastards are not only going places, but they are also going far.

ECMA Nominations for Blues Recording of the Year:

John Campbelljohn - Good to Go
Matt Andersen - Piggyback
Ross Neilsen & The Sufferin' Bastards - Redemption
Scott Parsons - Live at Mahogany Hall
The Dungaree Brothers with The Hupman Brothers Band - The South Mountain Swamp Rock Opera
Thom Swift - Blue Sky Day

Canada's Longest Running Blues Program Interviews Ross Neilsen

Filed in:
Ross Neilsen and The Sufferin' Bastards

Ross Neilsen and The Sufferin' Bastards have been getting their fair share of press lately. And with good reason. This hard working band is in the middle of yet another cross-Canadian tour while promoting their new album, Redemption. And with their new single 'Afflicted' getting spins at blues specialty programs, college radio, and rock radio stations across the country, the press is taking notice. Hard work pays off as the band has been getting articles and reviews in almost every city they play in, which is a fantastic tribute to these road warriors.

While at a tour stop in Edmonton last week Neilsen had the pleasure of co-hosting the Natch'l Blues show on the CKUA Radio Network with host Holger Petersen.

This is Canada's longest-running blues program and has been on the air since 1969. Natch’l Blues is the quintessential destination for the serious blues fan or the curious newcomer. Presented every week by Canada's blues emissary, Holger Petersen, head of Stony Plain Records and longtime CKUA host, the program is a collection of the best music of the genre and interviews with the greatest names in blues.

So sit back, pour yourself a drink, and listen to this intriguing conversation with one of Canada's best blues musicians and one of Canada's most celebrated blues tastemakers:

Band uses recyclables to finance new recording

Filed in:

It's often been said that people look for hope in the bottom of a bottle.

But if you're assuming that Fredericton's own Ross Neilsen and The Sufferin' Bastards hit the bottle looking for inspiration behind their smokin' new record, Redemption, you ought to think again.

To cover the costs of producing their new record, Neilsen and the Bastards relied upon the generosity of fellow New Brunswickers, who donated their returnable beverage containers so that the band could claim the deposit money to put towards their recording fees.
