What Killed The Music Industry?

As you may know, the founders of The Pirate Bay (the world's most popular Bit Torrent site) are currently on trial in Sweden, which is sure to be the most important case the file-sharing community has ever witnessed.

TorrentFreak is posting a daily synopsis of each day's trial proceedings, which is an incredibly interesting daily read.

Today,
TorrentFreak posted a great article on what really killed the music industry. Despite what industry bigwigs say, the fault cannot be put squarely on the shoulders of file sharing. There are many new forms of personal entertainment that compete with music purchases, which didn't exist ten years ago. The iPod, cell phones which are typically replaced every two years, cell phone bills, high speed internet bills, gaming consoles, games, DVDs, Blu-Ray, streaming internet radio, etc.

But despite all of this negativity, options and resources for independent artists has never been greater. While the old way of doing things has changed, new players with innovative ideas will come out on top.
